Ministry of Health's AIDS plan for the gay community

This episode, the second of Channel News Asia's series on AIDS in Singapore aired on 19 August 2005, focused on the homosexual community. It included interviews with gay activist Alex Au and counsellor Clarence Singam.



On 30 Sep 07, Minister of Health, Khaw Boon Wan, announced an impending amendment to the Infectious Diseases Act which would make it a criminal offence for unknowingly infected HIV carriers to have unprotected sex with multiple partners - a world first. The Ministry of Health would also be empowered to shut down premises where infections were thought to have taken place.

UN Women Australia commissioned a short documentary to be made to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of International Women's Day. 'On Her Shoulders' follows the history of International Women's Day and the struggles women have faced. In addition, it looks at what still needs to be achieved to ensure that gender equality can be fully realised.

Transgender 'Thailand's Got Talent' Contestant

A recent "Thailand's Got Talent" contestant shocked audiences by revealing herself as a male-to-female transgender when her beautiful soprano morphed seamlessly into a masculine tenor midway through her debut performance.

Though male-to-female transgender operations are reportedly fairly common in Thailand, the performer's dual range certainly surprised the judges, who said they were "dumbfounded" but nonetheless praised her vocal prowess.
