Some dictionaries add the words 'for sexual pleasure', but this is not really true because many cross-dressers just feel comfortable – rather than sexually aroused – when they don the clothing of the other sex.
Women Cross-Dress All The Time!
Women dress up as men all the time. However men who like to dress as women are frowned upon in our society.
We should not confuse transvestites to be homosexuals or men wanting to become female. This may be the case but not necessarily always. The best thing is not to assume and ask politely. You might be pleasantly surprised that this person is not only willing to share, but appreciate your desire to listen and learn more.
Why do men cross-dress?
For men who cross-dress, it could be as an outlet of stress, others might find it fun, erotic and a way to escape into fantasy. Many do not go further than just cross-dressing in private, and do not have desires to do otherwise. Those who are unhappy, feel stuck in their bodies and take steps to change their gender are called transsexuals.
It is presumptuous to assume that anybody who cross-dress is psychologically disturbed or has a mental illness. Psychologists in the USA have decided that cross-dressing comes within the normal range of male sexuality unless it becomes a compulsive obsession.
If you know somebody who could benefit from seeing a trained clinical sexologist, like myself, please keep me in mind. Most of us will invariably feel much better for talking over a situation with someone who is non-judgmental and sex-positive. For an appointment, please email info@eroscoaching.com.
